The 31-year-old Arber Bako, who is accused of shooting up a nightclub in Piraeus last Saturday, will be detained until his trial, after he was taken to the courts in order to state his plea. The suspect, who was arrested on Wednesday, will not be accompanied by an attorney. Bako faces serious charges of attempted serial homicide with intent and various other weapons charges.

On Thursday evening the Police arrested a 30-year-old Albanian national in Sepolia, who appears to have been involved with Bako. The 30-year-old had been considered a suspect in the murder of a man in Korydallos a few months ago, whom the Police suspected may have been involved in the execution-style murder of two Golden Dawn members in N. Iraklio.

According to police sources, the man they arrested in Sepolia was “one of the more prolific executioners to have acted in Athens”. Bako’s gang is thought to have participated in armed assaults against bars and stores in Agios Panteleimonas, Metaxourgio and Michalakopoulou Street. There may also be connections with another criminal gang that operated between 2007 and 2008, which had killed 11 and injured dozens.
