The government’s indecision regarding the induction of the ENFIA tax in the regulation providing 100 installments for overdue debts is yet another indication of carelessness. There is a danger that such a correct regulation, namely one that can help out thousands of taxpayers, will backfire for the government.

The change in the regulation is obviously a result of pressure from the troika, which had objected to the 100 installments from the start, arguing that it would create a budget gap. This proves once again that carelessness and demonstrations of power are pointless in the negotiations with the creditors, as they quickly turn out to be useless.

Now that we are in the final stage, in order to catch a breath from the tight grip of our creditors, the government has the duty to not only be careful, but to constantly demonstrate that it is not trying to use tricks to circumvent commitments and obligations undertaken. Now that the government claims that its strategic goal is to change the state of supervision and monitoring, it is absurd to have one eye on the polls and the other on trying to appear consistent to our European partners.

Unfortunately for us, the trust in the political system has been broken for some time now. Consequently, our creditors constantly request our compliance to their demands in order to trust us with a more relaxed relationship, which is our goal. So the government should make sure to not give them excuses and arguments that will make our lives harder. The ongoing negotiations must come to an end as soon as possible so that we can finally move on to the next day. The country, society and the economy cannot endure any more delays, postponements and indecision.
