The selective default of Argentina has sparked a fierce clash in Parliament between members of the coalition government and the opposition.

The first “shots” were fired on Thursday, when PASOK’s Panagiotis Rigas cited SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, who once commented that “we should have turned into Argentina”, with SYRIZA’s Nikos Voutsis (pictured) responding that Argentina dared to deny the “black speculative crows”.

On Friday New Democracy’s Adonis Georgiadis accused Nikos Voutsis of misrepresenting Argentina as a paradise and claimed that the average income per capita in Greece at present was nearly three times that of Argentina.

Prior to Mr. Georgiadis’ comments, Mr. Voutsis denounced New Democracy for propaganda and stressed that despite fear mongering in the media, “all indexes are improved, there is no issue of debt, unemployment and external trade”.
