On Tuesday four armed Turkish aircraft entered the Athens FIR without submitting a flight plan and in two cases the interception by Greek fighters turned into a dog fight over the North Aegean.

Aside from the four Turkish aircraft, a Turkish helicopter from a nearby Turkish Navy vessel also entered the Athens FIR. The last time that Greek and Turkish aircraft were involved in a virtual dogfight was in January 2012.

In total there 3 violations of air traffic were reported, which developed into violation of Greece’s national airspace over the North Aegean. All of the Turkish aircraft were recognized and intercepted by the Greek Air Force.
