As German Chancellor Angela Merkel scheduled to visit Athens on Friday, the leading party of the opposition, SYRIZA, and other leftist parties have arranged a series of demonstrations in the city capital.

SYRIZA and trade union ADEDY have arranged a rally at Klafthmonos Square at 5pm and mentioned in its statement that “the visit of Chancellor Merkel in Athens is to support the Samaras-Venizelos government ahead of the elections […] to reward the catastrophic government effort”.

ANTARSYA has also arranged a demonstration at Klafthmonos Square, at 5.30pm.

In light of the car bomb that went off early in the morning on Thursday, the Police are rumored to issue a ban on marches in the capital on Friday. The first such decision, in recent years, was made on the even of German chancellor’s visit to Athens in October 2012.
