After successfully passing the controversial multi-bill in Parliament on Sunday, the coalition government is starting to make its plans for the upcoming elections in May.

Despite having suffering losses and experiencing some internal strife, due to the choices made by Giorgos Papandreou, Apostolos Kaklamanis and Nikitas Kaklamanis, the coalition government is not worried of any early general elections anymore, since the opposition proved unable to convince in Parliament.

While the vast majority of cabinet ministers are against the prospect of general elections, a number of government officials believe that early elections could beneficial, considering the uncertainty that will follow after the European elections. Should that be the case, the coalition government is confident of prevailing, considering the opposition’s recent performance in Parliament.

The expulsion of Nikitas Kaklamanis from New Democracy (reducing the coalition government’s parliamentary majority to 152 MPs) may have been beneficial for the party. Now there is less confusion for the party’s voters in the municipal elections, where Mr. Kaklamanis is to race against ND MP Aris Spiliotopoulos.

With the government confident that it will not have any problems in Parliament, it can now focus on addressing a series of critical social problems, in sectors such as the pharmacies, where the conservative party has lost a lot of its influence. ND supporters who are part of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece are displeased with the overall government policies are preparing for actions.
