The doctors and hospital staff members at the country’s three psychiatric hospitals are going to face suspensions as part of the government’s public sector mobility plans. The general administrator Otto Charalambakis of the “Dafni” psychiatric hospital in Athens refused with the expedited plans and submitted his resignation to the Minister of Health on Friday morning.

According to plans, three clinics from the “Dafni” and one from the “Dromokaitio” psychiatric hospital will be transferred along with their doctors and staff to the “Sismanoglio”, “Sotiria” and “Polyclinic” general hospitals. There are thoughts about transferring an adult and child psychiatric care unit to the “Asklipio” in Voula, since there are no psychiatric care units in the south and east of Attica.

Executive officers from the Ministry of Health and regional healthcare authorities have estimated that each psychiatric clinic employs about 60 staff members, including hostels and boarding houses. The lists of names with employees who are going to be suspended as par of the mobility plans will be announced next week and the process is expected to last about 15 days.
