The strike organized by the secondary school teacher union OLME was suspended last night, meaning that the schools will reopen again on Thursday.

The local teacher unions (ELME ) decided to suspend the strike in their sector, since they could not garner the necessary majority vote to continue. In total 30 ELME unions voted blank, 17 in favor of ending the strike, 12 in favor of a new 5-day strike and 5 in favor of a 48-hour strike.

OLME launched 5-day rolling strikes on the 16th of September and initially had a popular support, however the financial difficulties faced by the teachers lead to a collapse of the strike front. About 100 schools are under occupation by students. The Ministry of Education is working on a Presidential Decree which would extend the academic year for schools that are occupied for more than three days.
