The head of the IMF Christine Lagarde gave an interview to CNN where she conceded that the restructure of the Greek debt should have occurred sooner, despite potentially putting the Eurozone in jeopardy.

Mrs. Lagarde explained that the choices made were to primarily ensure the viability of the Eurozone, before tackling the serious problem of the Greek debt.

Regarding the European economy as a whole, Mrs. Lagarde claimed that after many trimesters of recession the situation is finally improving, as evident by the predictions for growth next year.

The IMF chief admitted that the world economy is still facing serious problems, but was hesitant to adopt the former chairperson of banking supervision authority FDIC Sheila Bair’s opinion of an upcoming collapse.
