SYRIZA denounced the statements of its own MP, Eleni Avlonitou, over her vulgar attack on main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a televised discussion today.
“When you listen to Mr. Mitsotakis, I don’t know what to say. They tell him to say such gaffes. In the framework of the bollocks that were said by Mr. Mitsotakis, who is…Of course, he is not personally to blame,” Avlonitou said.
The reaction from SYRIZA was immediate. Party spokesperson Rania Svigou said that SYRIZA denounces the insulting remark, and that such language has no place in the political debate.
New Democracy issued a laconic statement. “We shall not follow the decline into vulgarity,” the party said. “Now, what SYRIZA is has been revealed to everyone.”
Asked if she would like to take back her statement about Mitsotakis, Avlonitou appeared to blame his advisors, for not advising him well.
Criticising the fire victims

Avlonitou also offered her critique of how victims should have handled the deadly fire in Mati.
“They should have swum in deeper waters to protect themselves from the fallout from the fire,” she declared.
