The European Union has decided to recall its ambassador to Moscow in an apparent show of solidarity with the UK, even as EU leaders were holding their regular summit in Brussels.

The move comes in the aftermath of a nerve gas attack on Sergei Skripal in Salisbury, which has been attributed to Moscow.

The EU ambassador, Markus Ederer, is being recalled for consultations regarding the incident.

The diplomatic recall was preceded by a strong statement issued by the 28 EU leaders regarding Russia’s possible involvement in the attack against Skripal, who had acted as a double agent for Moscow and London, and expressing solidarity with the UK.
